Las Loicas is located on the Atlantic coast of Tierra del Fuego, near Cabo San Pablo, about three hours from Ushuaia. The journey itself is already part of the experience.
The drive begins on Ruta 3, crossing the Andes and slowly leaving the Beagle Channel behind. Along the way the landscapes constantly change, from mountains and forests to the open steppe of northern Tierra del Fuego.
If you have time, we recommend stopping at Paso Garibaldi, where you have a beautiful view over Laguna Escondido and, in the distance, the enormous Lago Fagnano stretching across the island.
After passing Tolhuin, the roads become quieter and the landscapes wider. Guanacos often appear along the roadside and the feeling of remoteness slowly starts to grow.
Around 35 kilometers north of Tolhuin, you leave the main road and turn onto Ruta A. From there, the final 46 kilometers are on a gravel road crossing remote estancias, rivers, forests and open landscapes.
The road can be rough depending on the weather, which is why we recommend traveling with a 4x4 vehicle. Along the way you may pass sheep, horses, gauchos moving cattle and, eventually, your first views of the Atlantic Ocean.
As you get closer to Cabo San Pablo, the landscape changes once again. The forest meets the ocean, the winds become stronger and the feeling of space becomes difficult to describe.
Guests can also arrive from the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego. In that case, Las Loicas is only a few hours from the Bella Vista border crossing, a remote crossing connecting the Chilean and Argentine sides of the island.
For travelers coming from Chilean Patagonia, Las Loicas can also be combined with a longer journey from Puerto Natales after visiting Torres del Paine National Park, continuing south through Tierra del Fuego towards the Atlantic coast.
We are happy to help organize transportation from Ushuaia, or guests can choose to rent a 4x4 and make the drive themselves.
